The FINANCIAL — The FINANCIAL’s Georgian edition has integrated Facebook plug-ins into its popular website financial.ge which makes the website more social. New Like and Comment plug-ins developed by Facebook enable users to connect their activities on financial.ge and Facebook.
“The Facebook platform makes our website more personalized and social,” FINANCIAL Director Zviad Pochkhua commented.
“Facebook enabled us to ease the registration process for our site by enabling users to log in with their Facebook account. Our readers have the option to make comments through their FINANCIAL account or Facebook.”
The Facebook platform uses the OAuth 2.0 protocol for authorization. It provides a single, simple callback so the application can automatically handle the complex set of authentication states that exist in a single-sign on system.
For example, if a user has previously logged into the financial.ge website, but doesn’t have a cookie for this site in the current browser, the SDK will automatically detect that condition and instantly log the user in without requiring the user to click a Facebook login button again.
Facebook said a week after introducing new plug-ins, 50,000 websites now feature the Like button and the other new plug-ins. 75 of those websites were Facebook’s launch partners, which included sites like CNN and the New York Times – everyone else handled the integration on their own, which Facebook has made very straightforward (it generally just involves copy-and-pasting a few lines of code). This growth is important, because as more sites integrate these social widgets, Facebook will increasingly own social interaction across the web.
