The FINANCIAL — The government of Finland is donating EUR 40,000 (CHF 43,106) to help least-developed countries (LDCs) participate in the Tenth WTO Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on 15-18 December. The Ministerial Conference is to be held in Africa for the first time since the WTO was created in 1995.
WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said: “I welcome Finland’s contribution to helping least-developed countries take full part in the WTO’s Tenth Ministerial Conference in Nairobi this December, the organization’s top decision-making body. This donation supports our shared goal of inclusiveness in trade.”
Finland’s Ambassador to the WTO, Ms Päivi Kairamo, said: “Finland is a long-standing supporter of LDCs in their efforts to integrate into the global economy and to promote sustainable development through trade. Ensuring LDCs’ participation in the Ministerial Conference is crucial in order to make Nairobi an inclusive and successful event.”
Since 2000, Finland has donated EUR 16,415,125 (CHF 17,688,927) to WTO trust funds.
