The FINANCIAL — YEREVAN, October 10, 2011 – On October 6, 2011 NASDAQ OMX Armenia and Cetral Depository of Armenia organized the international conference titled “Global Opportunities of Local Markets: Infrastructure and Regulation”.
In his welcome word Mr. Konstantin Saroyan, NASDAQ OMX Armenia CEO, newly appointed by the Board, expressed confidence that this Conference will contribute to development of practical reccomendations and will have its logical continuation in terms of stock exchanges and depositories further cooperation.
Mr. Nerses Yeritsyan, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, presented vision and developments of Armenian capital market, while Mr. Vardan Aramyan, Deputy Minister of Finance of Armenia, elaborated on tendecies of Armenian macroeceonomic development and results of the latest related research.
Representatives of USAID Pension and Labour Market (PALM) and Partners for Financisal Stability (PFS) progams spoke on the role of institutional investors and funds the development of Armenian capital market, as well as presented results of their projects’ activities in Armenia and the region.
Issues of stock exchanges’ and central depositories’ cooperation and interoperability, technical, legislative and regulatory aspects of securities markets development and internationalization were discussed during the Conference. Depositories’ delegates from Armenia, Russia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Korea, India, representatives of stock exchanges from Armenia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine as well as of such companies, as NASDAQ OMX Inc., SWIFT and Clearstream Banking presented experience and recent developments of their countries and companies in this field.
The Conference, being remarkable by being the 1st joint International Conference of Stock exchanges and CSDs of two regional associations – Association of Eurasia Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) and International Association of Exchanges of CIS Countries (IAEx of CIS), attracted 117 CEOs and senior representatives of 77 companies from 14 countries of CIS, Europe and Asia.
Ameriabank was the Gold sponsor of the Conference, while other sponsors included Armswissbank, Converse Bank, Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (MICEX), Armenian Card (ArCa) and USAID PFS Program.
