The FINANCIAL — The EU-funded project FLEG II has taken part in the development of a Forest Safety Manual in Azerbaijan, addressed to people visiting forests who may not be aware of basic safety rules.
The manual was prepared with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, according to EU Neighbourhood Info Centre.
The project said forest-based recreation activities were on the increase, but visitors did not always know basic safety rules and could cause irreparable damage to sensitive forest eco-systems. The manual includes a wide overview of information on proper modes of conduct in emergency situations.
“So far our main task was to strengthen forest-related knowledge among the youth and thanks to our partners… and publications, many children in the forest-dependent communities and beyond have been encouraged to take forest safety seriously,“ said Azer Garayev from the FLEG II Programme.
The €9 million ENPI FLEG II programme deepens reforms in forestry policy, and legal and administrative matters in the sector while carrying out pilot projects, and addressing forest fire and climate issues. It builds upon the achievements of its predecessor, ENPI FLEG I programme.
