The FINANCIAL — In January-August 2007, foreign trade turnover of Georgia totaled $3 billion 909,6 million (without consideration of spontaneous trade), by 36,6% more than in the same period of 2006. BLACK SEA PRESS was told it at the Statistics Department of Georgia.
Export made 784,5 million dollars (by 26,5% more), import – 3 billion 125,1 million dollars (by 39,4% more). The negative balance of trade of Georgia made 2 billion 340,5 million dollars, by $718,3 million more than in January-August of the previous year.
In January-August 2007, the foreign trade turnover of Georgia with the CIS countries made 1 billion 427,8 million dollars, by 24,1% more than in January-August 2006. Share of the CIS countries makes 36,5% of the foreign trade turnover of Georgia (in January-August 2006 the above index made 40,2%). Share of the CIS countries in the negative trading balance of Georgia makes 35,2% (in January-August 2006 the above index made 36,5%).
The foreign trade turnover of Georgia with the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) for the reporting period made 1 billion 113,5 million dollars, or by 33,9% more than during eight months of the previous year. Export totaled 172,9 million dollars (by 23,7% more), and import – 940,6 million dollars (by 36% more). Share of the EU in the total foreign trade turnover of Georgia makes 28,5%.
In January-August 2007, Turkey became the basic trading partner of Georgia. The foreign trade turnover of Georgia with Turkey for the reporting period made 547,3 million dollars, by 27% more than for the same period of 2006. The turnover with Turkey made 14% of the foreign trade turnover of Georgia, by 1 percentage points more than in January-August of the last year.
During January-August 2007, Russia is the second among the basic trading partner countries of Georgia. The foreign trade turnover of Georgia with Russia for the given period made 422,4 million dollars, that is 1,7% less than for the same period of 2006. The turnover with Russia made 10,8% of the total foreign trade turnover of Georgia, by 4,2 percentage points less than in January-August of the last year. Turnover with Russia was reduced by $22,3 million in the reporting period, while the import index was increased by $14,8 million. About 40,9% of import refer to oil gas and gas hydrocarbons ($155,4 million) that is mainly conditioned with increase of price of natural gas.
Ukraine (382,7 million dollars – 9,8%), Azerbaijan (321 million dollars – 8,2%), Germany (277,6 million dollars – 7,1%), the USA (181,9 million dollars – 4,7%), Bulgaria (153,5 million dollars – 3,9%) and the UAE (139,6 million dollars – 3,6%) are the basic trading partners of Georgia.
