The FINANCIAL — On May 28, French Business Council – Georgia organized its first “closed- gathering” dinner in Shardeni 12.
The event was attended by members of FBC board, various companies already joining FBC and honorable guests from various sectors of business as well as Georgian officials.
The gathering aimed at specifying and targeting the further steps to be implemented by the Council, since additional 35 members, various French and Georgian companies joined FBC from the moment of its creation on February 14, 2008.
The Dinner was attended by Mr. Eric Fournier, H.E. French Ambassador to Georgia, who also made an opening speech, stating that he was pleased to find out the considerable number of companies, who exposed their desire to join FBC and support the development of Georgian-French business relations in the country. “The idea and aim of creation of FBC is to bring information about Georgian economy and business to France and to attract businessmen here. We will start to boost the sectors of agriculture, health and tourism in Georgia” – stated the Ambassador.
Mr. Gilbert Hie, the President of FBC and CEO of Bank Republic noted that such gatherings will enhance the friendly relations towards the members and will work as a platform for mutual ties between France and Georgia. “We thought that at this moment, as we have already reached the sufficient number of organizations exposing their desire to join FBC, it was time to create a structure for communication, to put everybody together and have a global action for promoting foreign trade between Georgia and France.” Mr. Hie commented.
French Business Council – Georgia (FBC) was launched on February 14, 2008, targeting to promote the open market system in Georgia and foster French-Georgian business relations in order to contribute substantially to the expansion, modernization and enhancement of Georgia’s international trade and investment. The decision for setting FBC-Georgia is a very good mixture and team work between the public and private sectors. It is the initiative of businessmen and companies established in Georgia to set up this private organization with concrete support of the public sector.
In 2008 FBC will be very active in the fields of agribusiness, tourism, health and foreign trade in general as well as in attracting French investors to invest in Georgia. One of the most important missions of the French Business Council is to assist small and medium-sized businesses to open the door to exports to the other country, which will be crucial for the Georgian economy in 2008.
FBC will promote and organize contacts with business organizations and Chambers of Commerce in France and Georgia, in order to develop commercial relationships and cross boarder investments.
