The FINANCIAL — Bad weather forced French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius to cancel a planned appearance on Monday in Brussels to update the European Parliament on the Mali campaign.
"The exchange of views between French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and the foreign affairs committee has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions," the parliament said in a statement.
With Brussels still under snow which caused relatively minor problems with international air and rail transport over the weekend, there was no mention of a re-scheduled "exchange of views".
As EUbusiness said, French and Malian troops earlier Monday entered the central town of Diabaly, which has been the theatre of air strikes and fighting since it was seized by Islamist fighters a week ago, an AFP journalist witnessed.
French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Sunday that Diabaly, which is 400 kilometres (250 miles) north of the capital Bamako, had not yet been retaken by the Malian army.
