The FINANCIAL — France’s unemployment rate declined slightly in the first quarter as tens of thousands of people dropped out of the sample because they hadn’t looked for work, according to Nasdaq.
France’s unemployment rate fell to 10.3% in the first quarter of 2015 from 10.4% at the end of last year, national statistics bureau Insee said. Excluding overseas territories, the rate for mainland France fell to 10% from 10.1%.
Insee said there was a spike in the number of people who fell out of the statistics in the first quarter of the year. Around 71,000 jobless people were no longer considered unemployed because they hadn’t actively looked for work, even as they wanted to work and were available to work.
France’s employment rate fell to 64.1% from 64.3%, Insee said.
