The FINANCIAL — Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mr. Genadi Arveladze held a meeting with Ms. Sarah Croft, Lead Negotiator with the Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of Government of UK.
Resulting from the process of UK’s withdrawal from the EU (Brexit), the need has emerged for Great Britain to transfer international agreements signed by the European Union in bilateral format. Among others one of the most important direction is to maintain free trade regime with partner countries, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
At the meeting, two sides discussed the methods that will facilitate the smooth process of transition for both Georgia and Great Britain. The parties expressed their willingness and readiness to maintain bilateral relations at a level, which is defined by the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area part. It should be noted that UK plans to have such consultations with other countries in this region. Visit of the lead negotiator to Georgia this week is part of this ongoing process.
It was agreed at the meeting that the sides will start technical consultations with the purpose of maintaining a free trade regime.
Also, it should be noted that the fourth meeting of the Georgian-British political format “Wardrop Strategic Dialogue” will be held in London on 23-24 October, within the framework of which the dialogue with regard to bilateral agreements will continue.
