The FINANCIAL — The European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) participated in the 42nd Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting in Gali on 24 January 2017.
The EUMM and Georgian government representatives discussed the continuous cooperation and exchange of information, several criminal cases and detentions, as well as announced the closure of crossing points at Nabakevi-Khurcha and Meore Otobaia-Orsantia and previously introduced changes to a “border zone” in Abkhazia.
EUMM expressed serious concern about the closure of crossing points, which will impact the daily lives of local residents. Special emphasis was put on the challenges to freedom of movement for school children and patients crossing for medical care, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
Participants also discussed the possibility to expand information-sharing on military exercises and other activities by security actors to increase transparency and to avoid misperceptions.
