The FINANCIAL — In the frames of an official visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation of the Italian Republic Paolo Gentiloni to Georgia, the Memorandum in the sphere of education and science and the Agreement on the scientific-cultural co-operation were signed with a view to enhancing relations between Georgia and Italy.
The signing ceremony was held following the working meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister and the Italian Foreign Minister. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Paolo Gentiloni addressed the attending audience, according to MFA of Georgia.
Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Paolo Gentiloni signed the Executive Programme for the Agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Italy. While the Memorandum of Agreement from the Georgian side was signed by Minister of Education and Science Alexandre Jejelava and from the Italian side – by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Paolo Gentiloni held a working lunch, which was also attended by Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, Minister of Education and Science Alexandre Jejelava, Minister of Culture and Monument Protection Mikheil Giorgadze and representatives of the Georgian and Italian diplomatic corps. Before the working lunch, the Georgian wine tasting event was held in Vinotel.
At the meeting with the Prime Minister, discussions focused on various issues of bilateral relations between Georgia and Italy, on the geostrategic importance of Georgia and on the regional and global processes. Talking points also included the security environment and the current developments in Georgia’s occupied territories.
Discussions also focused on the need to enhance economic relations between the two countries and on the prospects for future deepening bilateral relations in the spheres of culture, education and science.
Paolo Gentiloni completed his official visit to Georgia. The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation was in Georgia on 6-7 November.
The Georgian Foreign Minister gave an assessment to this visit. According to Mikheil Janelidze, the important issues of bilateral co-operation were discussed in the frames of this visit that will further promote the development of relations between Georgia and Italy.
