The FINANCIAL — “Georgia belongs to Europe not only geographically but also in terms of values. We are the country which protects and upholds European interests in the Caucasus region and offers the European companies a bridge to connect with our partners and allies in the region” – Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said while addressing the participants of the Latvian-Georgian Business Forum.
Mikheil Janelidze spoke about the importance of Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and Latvia’s support in this process. He in particular noted that Georgia places an especially high value on “Latvia’s political and moral support which helps the country stay on its path to Europe”.
Mikheil Janelidze highlighted the opportunities which the integration with the EU and the EU internal market offers to Georgia, in particular, free trade in goods and services, capital flow, sectoral co-operation, mutually beneficial business relations. In this context the Minister emphasised the importance of visa-free travel to the EU and expressed the hope that the benchmarks the Government has fully fulfilled will serve as a basis for granting visa-free travel to Georgia.
While on the theme of Georgia’s integration with NATO, Mikheil Janelidze underlined Georgia’s contribution to the strengthening of international and global security and the continued participation of Georgia as one of the largest contributors in the world in NATO-led mission in Afghanistan and in the EU peacekeeping operation. “Georgia’s role is to stand by its partners and allies and I believe that we will achieve substantial progress on our path to NATO” – Mikheil Janelidze said.
The Latvian-Georgian Business Forum was held on 3 March as part of the Georgian Foreign Minister’s official visit to the Republic of Latvia, according to MFA of Georgia.
