The FINANCIAL — Large-scale emergency operational procedures, and how to carry them out ensuring a high quality and operative response to citizens in Georgia during major emergency situations – was the focus of an EU workshop that started in the country’s capital Tbilisi on June 23.
The event gathered over fifty participants from state institutions dealing with emergency situations, including Internal Affairs and Labour, Health and Social Affairs Ministries, police, fire/rescue units, ambulance Services and State Security and Crisis Management Council. The event is organised by the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX) in cooperation with the Internal Affairs Ministry of Georgia, according to EU Neighbourhood Info.
Experts from Greece, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania and Finland will focus on managing information overflow and interagency communication during large scale attacks like those that recently struck Paris and Brussels. They will also cover topics like identifying security threats and first steps to be taken, communication with civil society and tools used for public warning, as well as managing emergency response personnel during large scale attacks and emergencies.
TAIEX is a demand-driven tool that supports partner countries with the approximation of national laws, regulations and quality standards to those of EU Member States in the framework of Cooperation or Association agreements signed with the EU. In the Eastern Neighbourhood, TAIEX works with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
