The FINANCIAL — The EU/Council of Europe Joint Programme “Civic Integration of National Minorities in Georgia and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages” has produced new bilingual textbooks for kindergarten children.
The textbooks have been handed out to kindergartens in the Marneuli, Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki and Akhaltsikhe Municipalities, based on a preliminary needs assessment, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
The set of five bilingual textbooks has been produced in 13 minority languages. The e-versions are available on the project’s website and more than 10,500 copies have already been printed and distributed. In the case of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian-language kindergartens, the teaching materials are also designed to support children to develop proficiency in Georgian.
Municipality heads expressed their gratitude for receiving the new bilingual textbooks, stressing that these educational resources are necessary and practical for the kindergartens and also represent an effective step towards civic integration of national minorities.
