The FINANCIAL — “Georgia attaches great importance to the visit of the Spanish Foreign Minister to Georgia and considers it the Spanish Government’s political support” – Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said at a joint press conference following his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain José Manuel García-Margallo.
“We had the opportunity to discuss a whole number of issues and we are confident this visit will give a new impetus to the development of our relations in bilateral, as well as regional and multilateral formats. We highly appreciate the Spanish government’s political decision to open an embassy in Georgia. The first step in this direction has already been taken. Spain has already sent the charges d’affaires to Georgia and we are actively co-operating” – Mikheil Janelidze said.
Mikheil Janelidze thanked the Spanish Government for the support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, according to MFA of Georgia.
Mikheil Janelidze paid special attention to the potential of developing economic co-operation between the two countries. According to the Georgian Minister it is also important to benefit from Spain’s experience in the field of tourism. “We also spoke about the need to establish direct air communication between our two countries that will further boost tourism. Another focus of our discussions was wine tourism and prospects for its further development.
Mikheil Janelidze welcomed the decision of the Spanish company – Mercado San Miguel to make investments in Georgia and introduce a space analogous to the Madrid market in Tbilisi, which will improve the attractiveness of Tbilisi as a tourist destination.
