The FINANCIAL — According to Mikheil Janelidze, Effective implementation of the DCFTA reforms, including in the field of standardization, significantly boosted trade relations with the EU – making the EU the largest trade partner for Georgia total trade and exports growing steadily.
Speaking about Georgia’s international rankings, the Minister quoted the the recent assessment of the president of the EBRD, according to which “Georgia is named to be a leader of the second wave of countries moving into the western economy by the EBRD president. The EBRD’s investments and activities in Georgia, in per capita terms, being amongst the largest of all the countries in which they operate. While the European Investment Bank having opened its new office in Tbilisi embarked on the projects worth of hundreds of millions of euros.”
According to the Foreign Minister, Economic growth is expected to strengthen over the medium term, which is also forecast by the IMF assessment.
Mikheil Janelidze Together with the economic integration, Georgia has advanced in its sectoral integration process with the EU. The Minister highlighted the role of Georgia as a business and transit hub in the region. We are contributing to the access of the European companies to the markets of South Caucasus, Central and South Asia and to the far East and vice versa. We have accelerated investment program in the road infrastructure, we are building new deep sea port at the Black Sea and finalizing the Baku-Tbilis-Kars railway project.” – The Minister said. He also highlighted that with membership in the Energy Community and promotion of energy transit projects, Georgia is contributing to the energy security of the EU.
