The FINANCIAL — Products of the agro-industrial complex form relatively high share of 16.4% in the structure of foreign trade turnover of Georgia. According to the National Statistics Office, in January-August period of 2015 the general trade turnover in Georgia reached 6.4 bln USD, including the exports from the country – 1.46 bln USD, the imports – 4.94 bln USD.
During 8 months of 2015, the share of commodities of the agro-industrial complex in the general structure of goods exports from Georgia totaled 24% – 354.9 mln USD. The supplies of beverages formed the major share of such commodities exports – 47% (166.7 mln USD), including the exports of mineral and carbonated water at 73 mln USD (44% of the exports of Georgian beverages), and wine – 55.8 mln USD (33%). Nuts occupied the second position in the structure of exports, and its share reached 26% of the reporting shipments of foodstuffs and beverages (92.2 mln USD). The exports of farm animals occupied the following position – 6% of the agro-industrial exports or 20.7 mln USD, and the cattle exports formed 61% of the reporting sum, according to APK-Inform.
Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Armenia, Italy and other countries are the largest trading partners of Georgia in the exports of agricultural products from the country.
During 8 months of 2015, the share of agro-industrial commodities in the general structure of imports to Georgia totaled 14% (693.7 mln USD). The supplies of grains and pulses formed the main share of the reporting volume (12% or 83.5 mln USD), and the wheat imports formed the major share of grain supplies to Georgia (79% of grain import volumes, or 66.3 mln USD). Tobacco products occupied the second position in such category of goods imports (9.4%, or 64, 9 mln USD). The imports of meat and edible meat offal occupied the third position (9.2%, or 63.7 mln USD).
Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Brazil, Germany, the USA, Armenia and others countries are the largest trading partners of Georgia in the imports of agricultural products to the country.
The prospects for development of the general agricultural sector of Georgia, as well as its fruit-and-vegetable and grain segments, will be one of the major topics at the first agricultural forum of Georgia – Georgia Agro Forum 2015 (November 19, ExpoGeorgia, Tbilisi).
