The FINANCIAL — Head of the National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia summarized the current statistical data of international visitors and tourists in Georgia.
According to Giorgi Chogovadze, 6.954.932 international travelers visited Georgia in January-February of 2017, which is 1.081.031 (18.4%) more compared to the January-November of 2016.
As stated by the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, based on the data obtained from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of international visitors, who spent more than 24 hours in Georgia, amounted to 3.243.963, which is 701.371 (27.6%) more compared to the figures of January-November, 2016.
According to Giorgi Chogovadze, the positive trend of the tourist flow is recorded from the EU states as well since in January-November, 2017, Georgia was visited by the travelers from the following states: the United Kingdom (+ 39.7%), Austria (+ 35.6%), Netherlands (+ 32.7%), Spain (+ 30.5%), France (+ 29.7%) as well as Germany (+ 27.4 %), Saudi Arabia (+165.7%), Kuwait (+ 152.4%), Iran (+ 121.1%), India (+ 66.6%), Uzbekistan (+ 57.9%), China (+ 53.2%), the US (+ 24.2%) and others.
In January-November of 2017, the largest number of visits was from Azerbaijan (+ 10.9%), Armenia (+ 14.9%), Russia (+ 33.4%), Turkey (+3.2%) and Iran (+ 121.1%).
As for the statistics of November of 2017, 524.108 international travelers visited Georgia this month, which is 64.851 more compared to the same period of the previous year (+ 14.1%).
As stated by the head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, aso of November of 2017, the number of international visitors, who spent more than 24 hours in Georgia, amounted to 201.056, which is 36.044 (+21.8%) more compared to the figures of January-November, 2016.
In November of 2017, the largest number of visits was from Azerbaijan (+ 11.2%), Armenia (+ 7.2%), Turkey (+6.8%), Russia (+35.2%) and Iran (+ 92.5%).
Positive trend of the tourist flow is recorded from the EU states as well since in November, 2017, Georgia was visited by the travelers from the following states: the United Kingdom (+ 34.5%), France (+ 18.3%), Italy (+ 14.8%) and others.
Special growth was observed from Iran (+ 92.5%), Israel (+ 42.3%), Belarus (+ 41.5%), India (+ 40.6%), Russia (+ 35.2%), the US (19.3%) and others, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
According to Giorgi Chogovadze, as of the data of the second quarter of 2017, foreign tourism in Georgia amounted to 658.7 million dollars (+ 27.8%), which is 143 million more compared to the same period of the previous year. Total income from I-II quarters of 2017 in Georgia is 1.1 billion (1.093.280.615) dollars (+ 26%), which is 225 million dollars more in comparison to the previous year.
The share of tourism in the GDP of the second quarter of 2017 is 6.9%, which is 12.2% increase compared to the previous year.
As Giorgi Chogovadze added, the total share of tourism in the GDP for I-II quarters of 2017 amounts to 6.7%, which is 8.8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
As of January-October 2017, the amount of the foreign bank card transactions by the international visitors amounted to 1.799.989 GEL, which is 33.2% increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
