The FINANCIAL — Austrian celebrated its 10-year anniversary on 5 May, 2008.
Exactly ten years ago, on 5 May, 1998, the inaugural flight took place. Since then, Austrian is widely known in Georgia for best services, convenient connections and punctuality. For the past ten years Austrian continuously expanded this traditional link between the two cities and acted as a bridge for Georgia. Currently Austrian, operates four 4 flights per weekl to Tbilisi.
The year of 2008 also marks the 50th anniversary of Austrian Airlines. On 31st arch 1958 the first Austrian scheduled flight to London took off. Nowadays the Austrian Airlines Group flies to 130 destinations worldwide, providing ideal and fast connections, via Vienna International Airport.
The Austrian Airline has a long tradition of naming its aircraft after destinations. As a gesture of honour, in 2006 Austrian Airlines named one of its brand new Airbus A319 OE-LDG “Tbilisi”
The 126 seat aircraft was named by HE, Mrs. Sandra Roelofs, first Lady of Georgia. The aircraft is currently used for scheduled routes within Europe, thus promoting Tbilisi as a destination.
During the anniversary reception, held in nice partnership with Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel, Mrs. Eva Berger, Country Manager to Georgia since 1998, emphasized the importance of the Austrian Airlines flights for both Austria and Georgia, and its economies. At the end she noted “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers , partners, colleagues who have contributed to this success story over the past 10 years and looking forward to a further 10 successful years of Austrian.”
