The FINANCIAL — The Radio Way, a community radio station based in Georgia’s north-eastern Pankisi gorge, reported on November 29 that a Georgian citizen Adam Gumashvili was killed in Syria.
44-year-old Gumashvili, native of village Jokolo in Pankisi gorge, who had reportedly left for Syria in 2013, died on November 28, the radio station said, citing his family members.
The Radio Way said at least 31 natives of Pankisi gorge have died fighting in Syria since 2012.
According to the State Security Service, Georgia’s domestic intelligence service, as of November 2018, the estimated number of Georgians fighting for various terrorist groups in Syria stands at 15 persons, a significant decline compared to the 2015 figure of 50 fighters.
Overall, 43 Georgian citizens have died since the outbreak of hostilities in Syria, according to the State Security Service.
