The FINANCIAL — On 17 February 2016, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Gigi Gigiadze received Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland to Georgia Benedikt Asgheirson, according to MFA of Georgia.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the need to intensify bilateral relations and to start economic co-operation between Georgia and Iceland. The sides highlighted the importance of implementing the Association Agreement and finalizing the visa dialogue with the EU in due time.
The Deputy Foreign Minister provided the Ambassador with information regarding the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories emphasizing the importance of the international community’s firm support in this regard. Talking points also included regional and global issues on the international agenda.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iceland reaffirmed his government’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspiration.
