The FINANCIAL — Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani met Richard Perry and Matt Rimkunas, senior advisors to U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
The sides assessed as free, fair and transparent the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, on 8 October emphasizing the unprecedented number of international observers, according to MFA of Georgia.
Discussions focused on the recent important events and achievements, including the memorandum in the security and defence areas signed between Georgia and the U.S. as part of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Georgia on 6 July. The U.S. representatives reaffirmed their gratitude for Georgia’s essential contribution to the international peacekeeping missions.
Richard Perry and Matt Rimkunas reaffirmed the U.S. government’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and emphasised the importance of close and deep co-operation with the U.S. legislative body.
Davit Zalkaliani provided the senior advisors with information regarding the difficult security and humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. The sides also exchanged views on the issues relating to regional security. The First Deputy Foreign Minister spoke about Georgia’s foreign policy priorities and the Georgian government’s steps towards long-term development of the country and its European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
