The FINANCIAL — The delegation of Italian businesspersons, headed by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Italy Ivan Scalaparto, is visiting Tbilisi. The Georgian-Italian business forum was held in the Iota Hotel.
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia and the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy, Ivan Scalaparto opened the Forum.
According to Giorgi Gakharia, this forum is of outmost importance in terms of further enhancing of relations between Georgia and Italy.
“The range of interests of the Italian side might include agriculture, infrastructural projects and production – all the directions where the Italian export is on leading positions. On the other hand, it is interesting for us to cooperate and gain the knowledge that is accumulated by the Italian companies, especially in terms of exports and I think we will have certain results,” – Giorgi Gakharia stated.
According to Giorgi Gakharia, with the Free Trade Regimes that connect Georgia with the EU and China, there is an attractive platform for colleagues and businesspersons to use Georgia as a specific platform for production and trade.
The Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Italy Ivan Scalaparto talked about the prospects of deepening relations between the two countries. According to Ivan Scalaparato, the companies represent at the Forum have great potential to cooperate with the Georgian side and Georgia is a very interesting market, considering all the international indicators that it has.
The Italian delegation is represented by more than 30 leading companies working in such fileds as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, telecoms and tourism. The total annual turnover of their companies amounts to around 100 billion EUR, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Within the framework of the Forum, there were held meetings with the representatives of the relevant ministries and other state agencies as well as bilateral and introductory meetings between Italian companies and their potential Georgian partners.
The President of the Italian Foreign Trade Agency Michele Scannavini, as well as the EBRD Regional Director Bruno Balvanera, the IFC Regional Manager Jan van Bilsen and the ADB Representative to Georgia Yesim Elhan-Kaylar also attended the Forum.
This Forum is a continuation of the Italian-Georgian Business Forum held in March 2017, in Rome. The Forum in Italy was attended by about 260 representatives of Italian and Georgian companies. The Prime Minister of Georgia headed the Georgian delegation. The decision on conducting forum in Georgia was taken at the Forum held in Rome.
