The FINANCIAL — While Georgian companies have realised the clear advantage of accumulating “likes” on their facebook pages, Georgian political parties are still passive, failing to use facebook as a successful tool for communication with their voters.
facebook is the number one most surfed webpage in Georgia according to Alexa.com, California based subsidiary company of Amazon, which is known for its website ranking. Facebook has beaten Google.com, YouTube and Odnoklassniki.ru in Georgia.
TBC Bank hits the record, having collected more than 67,000 likes already, while Bank of Georgia has more than 51,000. The other most popular Georgian companies are as follows: Go Electronics – 25,000 likes; Unicard – more than 21,000 likes; Radisson BLU Iveria – more than 11,000 likes; Tbilisi Marriott and Goodwill – more than 9,000 each; Adress – 7,700; Redix – 6,320.
As opposed to Georgian companies, political figures and parties are not actively engaged in communication via Facebook.
The FINANCIAL revealed the most liked pages of politicians and government figures.
At the top of the list of most liked Georgian politicians is President of Georgia Mr. Mikheil Saakashvili with more than 25,700 likes. However, the President’s Administration declared that this is an unofficial page.
He is then followed by Gigi Ugulava, Tbilisi Mayor, who has 8,150 likes and whose page is official, managed by the Mayor himself and the press centre.
Vano Merabishvili, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, currently has 3,400 likes. The list is followed by Nikoloz Gilauri, Prime Minister – with 1,900 likes. The press centre says the page is official, controlled and managed by Gilauri as well as the head of the press centre.
It turns out that Georgian cabinet ministers are more actively engaged in communication via Facebook than other parties. Almost all ministers have their own official pages apart from Bakur Kvezereli, Goga Khachidze and Andria Urushadze.
Vera Kobalia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, has three pages, with 855, 767, and 739 likes respectively, the pages are official and managed by the Minister herself.
