The FINANCIAL — People have already started preparing for the summer season. The FINANCIAL has revealed that people in Georgia spend over GEL 500-1,000 on looking after themselves in the summer. Having tattoos done and getting suntanned are the most popular things during summer according to those Georgians interviewed.
“I already have a tattoo on my neck, but this summer I dream about doing another tattoo on my ankle. I don’t exactly know what kind of tattoo I’ll choose, but I know that I’ll spend quite a lot on it, in order to have it properly done one,” George Datiashvili, 28, says.
“Having tattoos is not an obsession of mine, but I think it would look good if I had one on my back. Having tattoos done is no problem nowadays, but I think that it’s better to do it abroad, to remind me of the holidays I spent there,” Ana Kepuladze, 23, says.
According to one of the Georgian Tattoo designers, Irma Askurava, nowadays the most fashionable tattoos are those with live effects.
“Chinese hieroglyphics and animals are already old fashioned tattoos abroad, but Georgians still try to draw them on themselves. It would be better if they started thing about modern tendencies and making the tattoos with live effects,” Irma Askurava says.
Irma Askurava says that in summer, demand for tattoos actually rises, but in nearly every other season of the year demand for tattoos stays stable. Sometimes 8-9 people visit her per day, in order to have tattoos done.
“People pay much attention to the quality of the tattoos, they usually make white-gray tattoos, but coloured ones are also very popular. Usually the cost of a tattoo starts from GEL 150 and coloured ones start from GEL 200,” Askurava says.
“At the moment we have ladies’ free discounts. If a man has a tattoo done, then the women accompanying him will be able to have a tattoo done for free,” Askurava says.

“In my view, if you have a good tattoo on show in the summer, it’s important to have a good suntan to show off as well. That’s why I always try to go to the solarium at the very beginning of summer,” Tea Adeishvili, 25, says.
People asked by The FINANCIAL declare that they visit solariums fairly frequently. When going to the coast, they prepare their skin for getting suntanned in solariums first.
“I myself constantly visit solariums on summer. I think that’s it’s easier to get a good quality suntan in a solarium than by just lying on the beach for hours waiting till you get a good skin colour,” Tea Adeishvili, 25, says.
According to Tea Lobjanidze, coordinator of Aesthetic Centre Body Image, solariums have become very popular among Georgians. She claims that solarium suntans are safer than ordinary suntans.
“Over 14 days you should have 10 sessions. The price of a subscription is per minute GEL 1.50, and without subscription – GEL 2 per minute,” Tea Lobjanidze says.
“We constantly offer our customers discounts and surprises,” Lobjanidze says.
Those asked by The FINANCIAL declare that they spend nearly GEL 800 to GEL 1,000 on looking after themselves in the summertime.
“I spend nearly GEL 800-900 in summer on looking after myself, not to mention the expenses of taking a holiday. I definitely have to change my wardrobe for summer every year and that’s where most of my money goes,” Ana Kepuladze, 23, says.
“I always try to be in good form in summer; I go to the solarium, buy more clothes for summer and also spend my money on buying cool perfume and different body lotions. I spend more than GEL 1,000 in the summer on my clothing only,” Tea Adeishvili says.
It appears that men usually spend less than women on looking after themselves in the summer. Most of the men questioned declare that they spent GEL 500 to 600 on looking after themselves in the summer.
“As it gets hotter people’s demand for cool perfumes and bronzing lotions are very actual among consumers. Chanel Auto, and Decleor bronzing lotions are also much in demand,” Ici Paris PR Manager told The FINANCIAL.
Khatia Shamugia says that products most demanded are cool perfumes, for and after suntan lotions and body lotions with different smells.
