“First of all we want to thank our loyal customers who have great confidence in, and awareness of, our brands. We are delighted that the number of our customers has been growing day by day and today our customers make up the largest part of the Georgian population,” said Zurab Babakishvili, Director of Geostar.
“We also want to thank the experts and organisers of the Golden Brand Awards, who did great work to get an objective outcome and reveal customers’ favourite brands – Papia and Avedov. It is a great honour for us to get this award and at the same time it is a great responsibility and challenge to fully justify such great trust and support. This award is recognition of the many years of hard work of our team. We are very proud of it,” he added.
“As for the winning brands, Avedov oil has been positioned on the Georgian market for 20 years already as a premium category, high quality and ecologically clean product. Avedov oil is made according to a centuries-old tradition which makes the brand exceptional in terms of its taste as well as the high quality of excitation and distillation that takes place over seven stages,” he said.
“Meanwhile, in terms of Papia, this brand entered the Georgian market nine years ago and it was unbelievable to many therefore that Papia managed to become a leader on the market in such a short time. The correct strategy and functionality of the brand played a major role in the success of the product, and today Papia is already the highest quality hygiene paper in Georgia,” he said.
As Babakishvili said, Geostar constantly tries to bring in and develop “interesting brands” on the Georgian market, which is one of the priorities of the company.
Q. Geostar was established in 1995. How did the company develop to becoming one of the leading companies in the country’s distribution market?
A. It is true that the company has been maintaining its leading positions in Georgia for 23 years.
Despite very difficult years which were related to difficult economic, social and political processes within the country over time, the company has been developing from year to year, attracting new brands and growing constantly.
Initially the company acquired the distribution network of Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi, and then expanded in to the regions of the country. Quantitative as well as qualitative indicators of distribution were improving gradually. All of this is the merit of the team that is working daily for the company’s progress and success.
Q. As we know, Geostar is an exclusive distributor of world famous brands. How does the company manage to make such high brands enter the Georgian market?
A. Geostar has the right to be the official importer and distributor of international brands BIC; Papia; Familia; Molfix; Molped; Bingo; Avedov; Zlato; Cargill; Bonduelle; Merci; Rogachev; Pagani; Rumo; SISI; Filodoro; and many others.
International brand manufacturers always try to choose such distribution companies that develop their brands in a particular market. This can only be managed by a company with great experience and highly qualified staff.
As for the Georgian market, despite the small size of the population, the majority of our suppliers consider the Georgian market a strategically important one.
The Georgian market is leader in the region in terms of the high level of competition.
Q. Could you please summarise the year 2017?
A. The year 2017 was quite a complicated and challenging year. Due to the high level of competition on the market it is difficult to operate on a daily basis. Despite the difficulties two of our leading brands, Papia and Avedov, managed to gain recognition and become number one brands in Georgia for 2017.
