The FINANCIAL — Consumer prices were unchanged in Germany in August over the previous month, adding fodder to expectations that the European Central Bank will keep its monetary policy loose for an extended period, according to Nasdaq.
Consumer prices in Europe’s largest economy were unchanged over July, according to both national and European Union harmonized standards, the federal statistics office, Destatis, said Friday, confirming its first estimate published in late August.
Consumer prices in August were 0.2% above the level seen in the same period of 2014, when measured by national standards, while the harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, was up 0.1% over August 2014, Destatis said, confirming its preliminary reading.
Maintaining the pattern of the previous months, energy put downward pressure on the index in August. Energy prices were down 7.6% on the year, Destatis said. Food prices, another major constituent in the inflation basket, were up 0.8% on the year.
