The FINANCIAL — Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel claimed this at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko on results of their talks in Kyiv.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, in particular, she informed that “the German side proposed Ukraine its help in fulfilling the roadmap on MAP”.
She stressed that Germany, as well as other NATO countries, will make its contribution into Ukraine’s fulfilling the Membership Action Plan.
A.Merkel also proposed the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine to work out a special navigation plan “to help Ukraine move towards NATO”.
A.Merkel explained that the so-called navigation plan is connected with technical and military issues. “The matter concerns issues that are fundamental for interests of NATO member countries and Ukraine, the mater does not concern any veto rights, artificial restrictions, and it is very important for me that the discussion continue namely on this basis”, A.Merkel said, adding that this discussion must base on the fact that “one day Ukraine will become a NATO member”.
