The FINANCIAL — Staying fit, not gaining fat or even losing any extra gained kilos from the holiday season is the only concern for many after New Year. The FINANCIAL interviewed specialists for advice on how to keep fit or get back one’s normal weight after the holidays.
The typical holiday table includes delicious Georgian cuisine and different sweet dishes. However we should not forget their calorie count.
100 grams of fish, pork or poultry is 250 kilocalories, nuts (100 grams) – 450 kilocalories, sweeties and cakes – minimum 600 kilocalories, honey (100 grams) – 300 kilocalories, khachapuri (100 grams) – 280-285 kilocalories, dough (100 grams) – 160 kilocalories.

Experts’ advice is to divide meals according to the time of day. “Individuals should eat less-calorific meals such as salads. In the first half of the day individuals should eat more nutritious products and spend the second half of the day in a nice distracting environment, so as to spend less time at the table,” advised Tea Shengelia, Director of Prime Fitness.
“Control the meal you eat and especially the regime, so as to be back to a daily and healthy lifestyle quickly. During the two week period, from 1-14 January individuals should periodically exercise, even just walk or dance, as it is quite easy to lose any 2-3 extra kilos that way. However, if an individual drinks too many traditional Georgian table drinks, the individual might gain weight without even realising it, pouring away a whole year’s exercise,” Shengelia added.
“After New Year, one can spend the days relaxing,” said Professor Iva Kuzanov, Kuzanov Clinic.
“An individual can make cottage cheese and eat the product 3-4 times per day, or eat only apples during the day or carrots. I believe that the best product to eat at such a time is cottage cheese which eliminates feeling of hunger,” Kuzanov added.
“I would like to advise our dynamic society to be actively engaged in different sports activities and to get rid of any accumulated emotions through sport, so less cigarettes and more healthy products,” declared Kote Matitashvili, Surgeon at Caraps Medline.
“An individual might eat many high-quality foods and feel well, or eat unhealthy products 2 times a day and ruin their health,” Matitashvili added.
“The more active you are physically, the better you live. One should exercise, run, swim, walk in the evenings and not smoke. A balance should be obtained and energy spent, which is vital,” Matitashvili added.
To stay fit and get rid of gained kilograms Shengelia advises several types of physical activities such as running, aerobics, aqua sports and anti-cellulite massages, all depending on their intensiveness and weight of the individual. What’s vital is to exercise at least three times per week,” Shengelia added.
