The FINANCIAL — “Technical Inspection Reform is inevitable, complicated process and it is of outmost importance to have a very high inclusion of the state agencies, the Parliament, municipalities and the civil society,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Cherkezishvili stated at the Conference on Monitoring and Evaluation of Vehicle Technical Inspection Reform. The conference was organized within the project by the Georgian Alliance for Road Safety and the East-West Management Institute on Civil Society Development and Citizen Inclusion, The Conference was held at the Radisson Blu Iveria Tbilisi.
Giorgi Cherkezishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development spoke about the importance of the periodic technical inspection process of motor vehicles and noted that this is a joint responsibility of the drivers, the state and the civil society.
“The state obligations covers environmental protection, as well as the part of the infrastructure and quality control, in particular, regarding the fuel. It is also responsible for providing the smooth process, harmonization of the legislation and fulfilment of the obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union. We welcome the launching of your project and hope that it will be based on the cooperation,” – the Minister noted. In addition, he emphasized the importance of civil activity and involvement in the control and monitoring mechanisms.
From 1 July, the second phase of periodical technical inspection of motor vehicles was launched. Technical inspections will be obligatory for vehicles belonging to state agencies and legal entities.
Periodic technical inspection will be available at any convenient inspection centers. At the same time, citizens can get additional information through the hot line 1484.
