The FINANCIAL — Georgian-Iranian Business Forum was held in Tbilisi. Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Rabiei, the President of Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Nino Chikovani and the President of the Georgia-Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry Seyedeh Fatemeh Moghimi attended the Forum and addressed the participants.
Georgian businesspersons and the representatives of over 30 Iranian companies, within the framework of the Forum, discussed the Georgia’s investment opportunities and the main directions for economic cooperation between the two countries, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Within the framework of the forum Georgian and Iranian companies were able to establish business relations with each other, as well as to discuss the prospects of future cooperation.
Enterprise Georgia Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia introduced a presentation to the Forum participants, which aimed at informing the Georgia-Iran Business Forum participant on state programs facilitating production and export development.
The main areas of interest of Iranian business representatives include transportation, chemical and oil transportation, food industry, wood processing, power generation, telecommunication, steel production, oil and gas, event management, financial sector, jewelry production, manufacture of antibacterial medications, pharmaceuticals, packaging, sanitary products, import and export of raw materials, plastic production, engineering and construction sector and internet services.
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia gave the positive evaluation of the prospects of further development of Georgia-Iran trade and economic relations. “One of the results we have for now is the number of tourist from Iran totaling to 270 000 people. Another point is the Agreement on establishment of the oil processing plant which is a very large project. We have an even better situation in terms of medium-size business where we have about 48% growth of the trade turnover within the 8 months period.
However, it is not a great thing compared to the capabilities of the of Iran and that is why we arrange such events and why we conduct such forums as well as the intergovernmental commissions which are aimed at eliminated any obstacles for further development of the cooperation. For example, there are some obstacles related to the overland transportation via vehicles … we are gradually solving all the issues in order to make business to business communication as convenient as possible” – Giorgi Gakharia said to the media representatives.
It should be noted that during the 8 months of 2017, the trade turnover between Georgia and Iran is increased by 48% compared to the same period of 2016. Tourist flow from Iran to Georgia is also increasing and according to the statistics, in 9 months of 2017, the number of tourists from Iran is increased by 127%. According to the data of the second quarter, investments amounting to 1.6 million USD were implemented by the Iranian companies in Georgia, which is by 657% higher number compared to the same period of the previous year.
