The FINANCIAL — The GFA officially established the Georgian Farmers’ Advisory Council upon the support of the EU. The presentation of the Advisory Council and its members was held at Holiday Inn Tbilisi.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Janos Herman and the representatives of the USAID, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and other partner organizations attended the presentation.
The Georgian Farmers’ Association was established in 2012 upon the initiative and leadership of a Georgian female farmer Nino Zambakhidze. At this point, the Association unites around 2000 farmers. Shortly, the association managed to become a strong coordinator between the Government and the farmers.
At the presentation, the GFA President, Nino Zambakhidze introduced the activities and the future plans of the Association. The Minister of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili and the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia welcomed the audience, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
Giorgi Gakharia congratulated the GFA members with the fifth anniversary. As the Minister noted, the Association is one of the strongest professional union in the country providing greatest contribution to the agriculture development.
“Today I made, perhaps, the greatest decision in my life on the thing I will do after leaving this position – I will become a farmer. You should know that the job you do is just outstanding. This is the example of undertaking responsibility by the ordinary citizens when people do not wait for the Government to act but take the responsibility and start acting for good. You establish a pattern to everybody else – the people and different sectoral unions and this is of outmost importance” – Giorgi Gakharia noted.
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted that every initiative needs financial support. “We, the Government, can just provide the certain infrastructure for enabling you to continue your activities. We can offer some special support within the frames of the Enterprise Georgia and the state agricultural programs, we can facilitate in export through the Free Trade Regimes, etc.” – Giorgi Gakharia stated.
