The FINANCIAL — Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia participated in the 22nd World Petroleum Congress held on July 10 in Istanbul. Participants of the Congress represented more than 150 large companies from over hundred states around the world.
Giorgi Gakharia, within the frames of the visit, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Turkey, Binali Yıldırım. Topical issues related to the existing trade relations and further prospects of cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the meeting, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
As it was noted at the meeting, cooperation between Georgia and Turkey is successfully developing in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian directions. It is important that the existing treaties and legal base between the two countries counts over a hundred active treaties, which regulate almost all spheres of cooperation.
Giorgi Gakharia, during the conversation with Binali Yıldırım, highlighted the fact that Turkey is the main trade partner to Georgia with its first position among the top 10 trade partners and a friendly neighboring country as well.
On-going negotiation on the further expansion of the Georgia-Turkey Free Trade Agreement and the opportunities in terms of further liberalization of the Free Trade Agreement envisaging further liberalization of the trade of goods and adding the component of liberalization of the trade of services was also discussed at the meeting.
According to Giorgi Gakharia’s evaluation, Turkish-Georgian cooperation is a clear example of how the partners and neighboring countries can use each other’s economic potential to achieve greater welfare for their own people.
Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Turkey, Irakli Koplatadze and the representatives of the Georgian Embassy to Turkey also attended the meeting of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia with the Prime Minister of Turkey, Binali Yıldırım.
Within the framework of the visit, Giorgi Gagaria’s meeting with the Minister of Economy of Turkey, Nihat Ziebichi is also planned. Meeting of Giorgi Gakharia with the Minister of Economy of Turkey, Nihat Ziebekchy is also scheduled within the framework of the visit to the Republic of Georgia.
