The FINANCIAL — “We can facilitate each other in approaching the third-party markets. Iran is not just an 80 million-market for Georgia but we can also get access to even larger markets through Iran. In turn, through establishment of joint Georgia-Iran companies, Georgia offers Iran the access to all the privileges that our country has upon the signed agreements on Free Trade Regimes, which means the access to the European market as well as to the markets of our neighboring countries,” – Giorgi Gakharia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia stated upon the completion of the meeting with the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Rabiei.
According to Giorgi Gakharia, the two Ministers also discussed the transport corridors that are of outmost importance for Georgia on its way of becoming a logistic hub in the region.
The Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Rabiei is on official visit to Georgia. Within the framework of the visit, the 6th session of the Georgia-Iran Economic Commission will be opened tomorrow.
At the same time, a Business Forum with the participation of the representatives of Iranian and Georgia business sectors will be held as well. Participants of the Forum will discuss the prospects of cooperation in such fields as energy resources, agriculture, tourism, transportation, water supply, education and culture, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
It should be noted that during the 8 months of 2017, the trade turnover between Georgia and Iran is increased by 48% compared to the same period of 2016. Tourist flow from Iran to Georgia is also increasing and according to the statistics, in 9 months of 2017, the number of tourists from Iran is increased by 127%.
