The FINANCIAL — The specialist from the Munich Technical University (TUM) together with the Georgian colleagues will elaborate academic development plan, academic and research programs, managing structures and development plan of the Kutaisi University complex.
The prospects of development of the University complex in Kutaisi in cooperation with the TUM were discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia and Daniel Gottschald, the Managing Director of the TUM International Center – an organization established by the Munich Technical University in order to implement international projects.
The TUM Education Administration and Policy Coordinator Gia Khubua, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Cherkezishvili, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Teimuraz Murghulia, Head of Government Administration Maia Tskitishvili, Head of the International Relations Department of the Innovation and Technology Agency Mariam Lashkhi, Cartu Foundation CEO Nikoloz Chkhetiani, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Georgian Co-investment Fund Irakli Kereselidze and the Project Manager Vakhtang Tsagareli also attended the meeting.
The largest university town in the Caucasus region will be equipped with the modern infrastructure and newest laboratories will be located over the 140 hectares near Kutaisi. The budget of the project, together with the Tbilisi Technological Center, equals to 1 billion EUR and is financed by the Cartu Foundation.
The governing council composed of the representatives of the University of Munich as well as Georgia and Bavaria officials, will work on the project, according Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The Munich University Quality Assurance Standards will be used in the process of developing academic and research programs as well as selecting university management and scientific and administrative staff.
The specialists of the Munich Technical University will consult Georgian architects in the process of elaboration of the university infrastructural projects.
The details of the cooperation are defined in the Agreement signed between the TUM International and the Kutaisi University Complex.
The Agreement signed with the TUM International also implies the establishment of Innovation Center, Clusters Hub and Applied Research Center in the Kutaisi University as well as attracting of the potential business partners. A jointly elaborated concept will ensure the transfer of the knowledge and innovations, which will enable the Kutaisi University to become the regional center for knowledge and innovations.
