The FINANCIAL — Prospects of cooperation between the two countries in trade and other fields of economy where discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia and the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustavayev, which was held in Baku.
Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze and Giorgi Cherkezishvili, Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan Teimuraz Sharashenidze together with other officials also attended the meeting, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
“We had a very successful meeting with the Azerbaijan Minister of Economy, where we discussed the on-going issues and figured out following steps. We created several working groups in order to ensure a day to day working mode. We clearly understand the importance of the economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in different directions including transport corridors, trade and tourism development. Azerbaijan is one of the most important trading partners to Georgia, the FDI from the Azerbaijan investors is increasing and I believe that the enhanced quality of our partnership can greatly facilitate the economic growth of the both countries” – Giorgi Gakharia stated.
“We are strategic partners and the relationships between Azerbaijan and Georgia are developing successfully. Bilateral and high-level visits are very important in the development of these relations and Mr. Giorgi Gakharia’s visit is one of the high-rank visits, which we found of outmost importance. At the meeting with my colleague we discussed the issues related to transport corridors and of course covered the topics related to the Silk Road development, which is the field where Azerbaijan as well as Georgia are actively involved. We also discussed on-going strategic projects, talked about freight transportation, trade, agriculture, information technologies, tourism, investments and other important issues,” – Shahin Mustafayev commented.
Azerbaijan Economy Minister said that the current economic relations between the two countries are on a high level. “Trade turnover between our countries during the first four months of this year has increased by almost 50 percent, which is a very welcoming trend. We believe that there is still a huge prospects, which will allow to increase the trade turnover in the future even more” – Mustafayev noted.
As it was mentioned at the meeting, both countries attach particular importance to bilateral cooperation in the field of investments. “Our companies are one of the largest investors in Georgia and we would like to see more Georgian companies operating in Azerbaijan. Following this purpose, we introduced the investment environment of Azerbaijan to the Georgian delegation as well as the directions, which the Georgian investors might find attractive to work in our country” – the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustavayev said.
