The FINANCIAL — Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia held the meeting with the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey, Ahmet Arslan.
The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the Turkish Prime Minister to Georgia. Topical issues of the cooperation in the field of transport as well as the region-scale projects, which are of outmost importance for the two countries were discussed during the meeting, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
“In the era of economic integration and globalization, where the economic and trade relations between the countries become essential, development of the country’s transit capabilities is the main goal of the Georgian Government. Development of the Silk Road is the main priority for us and, consequently, we found it of outmost importance to implement joint projects together with our strategic partners, including Turkey,” – Giorgi Gakharia noted.
Minister finds the implementation of the transport infrastructure projects, modernization of the existing infrastructure and their effective functioning are the key elements for the further enhancing of trade and economic relations as well as encouraging the international freight transfer. As Giorgi Gakharia noted, Georgia has the capability to become the regional logistics center and Georgian Government facilitates implementation of the relevant projects including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, modernization of the existing railway lines, construction of the high-speed highway connecting eastern and western parts of the country and the development of the modern logistic centers.
Special attention was paid to the development of the road transportation between Georgia and Turkey as well as to the increased number of permits on the transportation services provision and facilitation of the transportation companies on the territory of the both countries. Two Ministers of the partner states also discussed the issues related to the cooperation in the fields of civil aviation and communications.
