The FINANCIAL — Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Kobulia held a meeting with the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell, who was appointed to the post in September 2018.
The Minister expressed gratefulness the European Union for facilitating the process of Georgia’s integration into the European structures, as well as for the EU’s strong position regarding the support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The progress in Georgia-EU trade and economic relations following the signing of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA). Georgia’s recent dynamics regarding the export to the European Union due to the reforms implemented in order to integrate with the EU market.
It is said that thanks to the reforms implemented in the EU market, the has been exported to the European Union. It was noted that the Government of Georgia will continue further implementation of the reforms under the Association Agreement in various spheres of economy in accordance with the DCFTA commitments. In January-August 2018, the volume of export to Georgia was increased by 12% compared to the same period of 2017.
It was agreed to hold another expanded-format meeting in the nearest future with the heads of the Embassy of the European Union, where all the current and scheduled programs, including financial and technical assistance, will be discussed, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
“We should agree on how to get the maximum outcome from these programs for Georgia. We will talk about many initiatives. For example, we want the EU to assist us in establishment of the construction and engineering standards related to the construction works as well as to the construction design and engineering stages. We want to have tangible results in energy efficiency direction as well as in safe and quality construction and we need to introduce these standards as soon as possible” – Giorgi Kobulia stated after the meeting.
