The FINANCIAL — The siege of Leningrad is one of the best examples of heroism and it will remain revered – Georgian Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili is quoted as saying in response to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin’s statement that Tina Khidasheli’s anti-Russian rhetoric is unacceptable to Moscow, in particular, the statement, which the Georgian Defence Minister made with respect to the siege of Leningrad.
According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the country occupying Georgia’s territories should not expect mild statements from the high-ranking officials of the Government of Georgia.
“As for Tina Khidasheli’s statement, I don’t believe that Tina could say such things about the siege of Leningrad, which was an example of heroism for many representatives of the nations of the Soviet Union; the Leningrad Blockade should remain as revered and sacred as other heroic deeds of many nations that fought against fascism; therefore, I don’t think Tina could say that. More than 20 million people died in this war. Members of my family were also among them. Examples of heroism involved in the Siege of Leningrad gives a feeling of pride to all of us, representatives of those nations, which have now been formed as independent states” – Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
