The FINANCIAL — Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili took part in the event “Climate And Security the Foreign Policy Dimension of Climate Change” held at the initiative of the French and German Foreign Ministers.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili reaffirmed Georgia’s full support for the Global Climate Change Initiative. He also pledged support for the Island States facing the threats posed by climatic change, according to MFA of Georgia.
“I wish to support the issue that has been posed by the French and German Foreign Ministers, notably, to reaffirm that environmental changes have an impact on both internal and international security.
I want to cite an example of Georgia. Our country was struck by a disastrous flood a few months ago, taking the lives of 23 people, killing zoo animals and inflicting heavy material and moral damage on us.
And this is only one example and the proof that we need to take care of our planet and its future.
For the past couple of years we have been developing cordial partnerships with the small island nations in the Pacific. These countries face truly existential threats which put severe strains on us. Therefore, we fully support the climate conference due to take place in Paris, and irrespective of whether we are a small or a big country we need to get united around this problem” – Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
The event was conducted by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier who thanked their Georgian colleague for participation in the event.
