The FINANCIAL — Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated that the Georgian Government carried out important activities with a view to fulfilling tasks under the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan, according to MFA of Georgia.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed the hope that the European Commission in its report to be released at the end of the year will positively assess Georgia’s achievements that will be assumed as a basis for the EU political decision to introduce visa free regime for the Georgian citizens.
“Georgia has performed a huge work to fulfil the home tasks; practically all items in the list of technical tasks are implemented. In most cases, we even exceeded the given obligatory frames. There are no technical shortcomings to be found in the list of technical tasks, so, we expect that the report due to be released in middle December will be positive.
As for the political decision by the European Union member states to give the Georgian citizens an opportunity to travel without visas, I think that this is a positive prospect. I would like to draw your attention to Federica Mogherini’s visit and her statement regarding the important progress achieved by Georgia in this direction.
We, all Governmental structures, carry out intensive bilateral co-operation with the European states in order to provide them with more information about the reforms implemented by us and to explain them that Georgia will not create any risk in this regard. Georgia is a responsible partner for Europe, “the Minister said.
According to the Minister, the reforms carried out by the Georgian Govenrment for rapprochement with the European Union represent a part of the important processes ongoing in the country in order to insure the country’s transformation and the welfare of the citizens.
“These reforms are important not only for achieving visa liberalisation. It should be noted that they are important for the country’s transformation, for us to become a genuine European state, for improving living conditions of all our citizens in their own country irrespective of visa liberalisation and for creation of transparent, genuinely democratic environment in the country. But our goal is further rapprochement with Europe and visa free travel in Europe. The Free Trade Agreement signed between Georgia and the EU will be efficient only with visa free travel, since visa free travel is an integral part of this Agreement”, the Minister said.
The European Commission will release its 4th report on implementation of Georgia’s Visa Liberalization Action Plan in December.
