The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, the swine flu virus has claimed the lives of over 2,900 people worldwide, Russia's trade and sanitary inspection authority said on August 31, citing data from World Health Organization regional bureaus.
"As of August 30… a total of 268,657 cases of laboratory confirmed human A/H1N1 infection have been registered worldwide, including 2,935 deaths," Rospotrebnadzor said.
As of August 26, 211 people had been diagnosed with swine flu in Russia. 95.6% of them became infected abroad.
