The FINANCIAL — Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is to open a new London restaurant, with the backing of football star David Beckham.
Ramsay, who last week announced that his company Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) has returned to profitability in 2012 after a few tough years, will open Union Street Café near Borough Market in September.
As Caterer and Hotelkeeper said, the restaurant will be a joint venture between Ramsay and Beckham as the former England captain is investing some of his football fortune in the business.
Commenting on the partnership, Ramsay said: “We're really excited to be opening Union Street Cafe in September and it’s great that David wants to come on board and be partner.
“We've been working on the new site, which is near Borough Market, for the past couple of years and the amazing large warehouse space will offer quality Mediterranean-influenced food with a daily changing menu.”
Union Street Café will be the first London opening for GRH since Bread Street Kitchen, which launched at the One New Change development in the City in September 2011.
The company has been focusing its expansion on overseas ventures, including new restaurants in the USA in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
