The FINANCIAL — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced on June 18 that the Honorable Tom Ridge, former governor of Pennsylvania and first secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will serve his fourth term as chairman of the Chamber’s National Security Task Force.
“Tom Ridge is a true expert in the field of national security, and during his time as chairman has been critical in bringing together leaders from both government and industry to effectively advocate for policies to strengthen our nation’s security while preserving our economic competitiveness,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “I thank him for the leadership he has shown over the past several years and the knowledge and expertise he continues to bring to this role.”
Ridge has been chairman of the National Security Task Force since 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
“Over the past several years the Chamber’s National Security Task Force has led the way in fostering government and private sector collaboration to address important national and economic security issues. We have relentlessly engaged partners such as DHS, the FBI, and other federal agencies on cybersecurity and we have partnered with NIST, the Administration, and businesses to jointly promote the Cybersecurity Framework around the nation,” said Governor Ridge.
“Recent cyber breaches have clearly demonstrated that American businesses and the U.S. government are being targeted by sophisticated actors. We are in this together. I am honored to continue my service as chairman of the task force, and look forward to working with Chamber members, Hill leaders and other government partners to achieve cybersecurity information sharing and to strengthen national and economic security.
“Cyber and supply chain security policy will continue to be at the top our agenda as we advance these issues from board rooms to the Hill,” Governor Ridge continued.
The Chamber’s National Security Task Force aims to unify companies, industry associations, and state and local chambers with a direct interest in homeland and national security issues. The task force represents a wide range of the nation’s economy and works to educate and advocate to policymakers in the administration and Congress on enhancing America’s security without hindering its economic vitality.
