The FINANCIAL — At the award ceremony of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) 2015/16 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme held today, Hong Kong Airlines was presented the “Corporate Safety Performance Award” in the corporate category while its subsidiary Hong Kong Aviation Ground Services Limited (HAGSL) won the same award for the first time.
Ten staff from Hong Kong Airlines and HAGSL won individual awards from various categories. Mr Chan Kwok Wing, Director, Corporate Safety, Quality Assurance & Security of Hong Kong Airlines, and Ms Mandy Chan, General Manager of HAGSL attended the ceremony to receive the awards, according to Hong Kong International Airport.
The Airport Safety Recognition Scheme is held annually by HKIA to recognize the airport community members and frontline staff who demonstrated exemplary safety performance during the past year. Among all the airport community members, 20 companies including Hong Kong Airlines stood out as the winners of “Corporate Safety Performance Award”. In respect of the individual categories, 227 out of around 400 participants won the awards, among which 10 staff members were from Hong Kong Airlines and HAGSL.
Debbie Chung, Ground Safety Manager of Hong Kong Airlines, developed a Fire Safety & Prevention Programme to proactively monitor fire safety. She was presented the “Accident Prevention Measures” award together with Lin Ying, Senior Purser, and Roy Ho, Acting Customer Services Duty Manager of HAGSL, who also demonstrated excellent risk management skills during work. HAGSL’s Yo To, Supervisor, Quality, Safety and Security, suggested lower heels of female uniform shoes to reduce the chance of workplace injuries after conducting interviews with frontline staff; Leung Yau Foon, Supervisor, Ramp Services, helped prevent the crew luggage from falling down by installation of safety canvas on the luggage rack of crew bus. The two staff and Alex Fung, Customer Services Duty Manager won the “Good Safety Suggestion” award in recognition of their constructive safety suggestions. “Role Model Safety Behaviour” winner Paul Chan, Assistant Engineer of Hong Kong Airlines, Samuel Lun, Customer Services Leader, Elva Tang, Customer Services Officer and Ellen Cheng, Supervisor, Operations Administration of HAGSL, all showed strong commitment in maintaining and improving behavioral safety, enhancing effectiveness in protecting passengers and staff.
Mr Chan Kwok Wing said, “Safety is always Hong Kong Airlines’ first priority. As a full service airline based in Hong Kong, we keep our operations strictly comply with the safety standards. Safety is our core value as well as the mindset in our daily work. I am pleased to see that we won the award again this year, which recognizes the Company’s continuous endeavor in various aspects including safety performance, safety training and safety organization. Going forward, we will continue to maintain our safety standards for safe travel experience for our passengers.”
Ms Mandy Chan said, “This is the first time that HAGSL receives the ‘Corporate Safety Performance Award’. Such recognition from the industry is a proof of HAGSL’s outstanding safety performance, which cannot be achieved without each and every one of the staff’s professionalism and dedication. Winning the awards encourages us to continue to work hard to implement the safety culture.”
Hong Kong Airlines has been certified by IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). And the airline is an International Air Transport Association (IATA) member. It has been awarded the highest safety rating as 7-stars airline on AirlineRatings.com, a well-known independent research website in the aviation industry.
