The FINANCIAL — The award ceremony of Hong Kong International Airport 2014/15 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme was held today at Regal Airport Hotel to give recognition to airport community members and frontline staff who demonstrated exemplary safety performance during last year.
Hong Kong Airlines was presented the corporate category “Corporate Safety Performance Award”, while 9 staff of the Company and its subsidiary Hong Kong Aviation Ground Services Limited (HAGSL) won different individual categories of the awards. Mr. Alex LINHARES, Director of Corporate Safety, Quality & Security of Hong Kong Airlines attended the ceremony.
Among all the airport community members, Hong Kong Airlines and 11 other companies stood out as the winners of “Corporate Safety Performance Award”. This award recognizes the Company’s continuous endeavor in various aspects including safety performance, safety training, safety organization, etc.. Hong Kong Airlines had also been active in safety drills and exercises. Last December, the Company took part in the annual Aircraft Crash and Rescue Exercise held by the Airport Authority Hong Kong and impressed the airport community with its efficient handling throughout the activity, further proving the Company’s competence in maintaining high safety standards.
In respect of the individual categories, 217 out of more than 400 participants won the awards, among which 9 staff members were from Hong Kong Airlines and HAGSL. Customer Services Supervisor Brian Lee from HAGSL was presented “Accident Prevention Measures” award in recognition of his courageous judgment which timely prevented a passenger from getting hurt when she tried to pull out her baggage stuck in a moving baggage claim belt. In addition, Debbie Chung, Ground Safety Manager of Hong Kong Airlines, suggested and established a Safety Committee connecting the Company and its services providers to enhance daily risk control. She won “Good Safety Suggestion” award together with 5 HAGSL staff for their shrewd suggestions respectively on safety. Two HAGSL staff were awarded as “Best Safety Supervisor” for their strong sense of responsibility shown in daily work.
Mr. Alex LINHARES said at the ceremony, “Hong Kong Airlines always holds fast to its commitment to put safety of the customers and staff as the top priority. Our operations have been strictly in line with the safety standards, and we consistently promote the safety culture internally. The winning of the awards is recognition of the company’s high safety level, as well as an encouragement on all our staff. We shall definitely continue to work hard to provide safe and pleasant travel experience for our passengers in every part of their journey with Hong Kong Airlines.”
