The FINANCIAL — The Hong Kong Hang Seng Index Thursday tracked up 0.46%, as traders mulled overnight losses on Wall Street but reacted to another rally-day on mainland markets.
The broad gauge Hang Seng rose 116.23 to 25,398.85, as gainers outnumbered losers 31 to 15, according to Nasdaq.
Leading the upside were the Macau gaming stocks, Sands China (1928:HK), up 7.93% and Galaxy Entertainment (27:HK), up 4.50%, on better-than-expected profits reports. Insurer and financial house AIA Group (1299:HK) rose 2.18%.
On the downside were Cheung Kong Property (1113:HK), off 1.14%; and then phone company China Unicom HK (762:HK), off 1.05%.
On the mainland the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index (SHCOMP) rose 2.43% to 4,123.92. The SHCOMP is up more than 17% since a July 8 low.
