The FINANCIAL — House prices, as measured by the House Price Index, rose by 1.1% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. These figures come from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Compared with the first quarter of 2015, house prices rose by 1.2% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU in the second quarter of 2015.
House price developments in the EU Member States
Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest annual increases in house prices in the second quarter of 2015 were recorded in Sweden (+13.0%), Hungary (+11.9%), Ireland (+10.7%) and Estonia (+10.5%), and the largest falls in Latvia (-4.4%), Italy (-3.0%) and France (-2.2%).
The highest quarterly increases were recorded in Cyprus (+7.4%), Austria (+6.4%), Denmark and Spain (+4.1% each), while falls were observed in Romania (-1.1%), Malta (-0.3%) and Italy (-0.1%).
