The FINANCIAL — HP on April 14 announced the immediate availability of two performance-boosted versions of its high-end personal workstation computers for digital content professionals in the broadcast, film/video post-production, animation and graphic arts industries.
In addition, the company will join DreamWorks Animation to present a keynote address at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas to preview a breakthrough product collaboration between the two companies
“Our personal workstations are widely known as the favorite workhorses of the NAB industry’s top professionals,” said John Thompson, vice president and general manager, Workstations, Personal Systems Group, HP. “A new generation of multimedia content, and the incredible groundswell of creativity behind it, is driving technology innovation to new heights. We continue to help power this movement with the latest performance enhancements in our workstations.”
During an afternoon keynote address, Todd Bradley, executive vice president of the Personal Systems Group at HP, and Roger Enrico, chairman of the board of DreamWorks Animation, will describe how creativity is driving technology advances and expanding the potential for new content.
The address, titled “Digital Innovation: What You Dream is What You Get,” will feature a video appearance by Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive officer and director of DreamWorks Animation. The trio will discuss future highly integrated systems that provide greater levels of digital color consistency between devices.
HP’s two updated high-end workstations, the HP xw8600 workstation and the HP xw9400 workstation, offer customers the latest in quad-core processor advances to boost performance for power users working with real-time video, high definition, animation and special effects.
The HP xw8600 workstation, the higher performing of the two, includes up to two Quad-Core Intel Xeon X5482 processors with a 1,600-MHz front side bus, 800-MHz memory and HP’s world-class expandability and reliability. The HP xw9400 workstation offers a choice of three new Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2300 processors.
Demonstrating HP’s environmental leadership, both workstations are listed Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT™) Gold, the highest rating available.
Professionals in the broadcast, film/video post-production and animation industries already use HP workstations to power their most demanding applications. For example:
DreamWorks Animation artists tapped HP’s powerful workstations to bring the characters in the Shrek movie series and Bee Movie to life;
Bungie’s game development team used HP workstations in the development of the highly anticipated Halo 3 game.
Belo Corporation, recipient of more national Edward R. Murrow Awards in 2007 than any other commercial television group, uses HP workstations to produce TV journalism for its broad family of stations; and
A&E Television Networks uses HP workstations to produce a wide range of standard and high-definition programming across its networks, including A&E Network, The History Channel, The Biography Channel and A&E HD.
