The 2011 Europe Prize has been awarded jointly to the town of Hünfeld and its French twin-town, Landerneau. The presentation ceremony in Landerneau will take place on 15 October 2011.
The prize – awarded annually by the Committee on the Environment, Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) – honours towns and cities for their active promotion of the European ideal, such as twinnings, European events and exchange visits. It consists of a trophy, a medal, a diploma and a scholarship to be spent on a study visit within Europe for young people from the winning town.
A delegation of parliamentarians, led by the Chair of PACE’s Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize, Axel Fischer (Germany, EPP/CD), presented the prize to Hünfeld’s Mayor, Eberhard Fennel, at a ceremony attended by numerous invited guests from the twin towns.
Hünfeld and Landerneau are the recipients of the 57th prize since its creation in 1955.
